Movement Labs Suspends Co-Founder Rushi Manche Amid MOVE Token Scandal and Coinbase Delisting
Movement Labs has suspended co-founder Rushi Manche following a series of events involving the MOVE token, including its delisting by Coinbase and allegations of market manipulation. The suspension is part of an ongoing internal investigation into the actions of a market maker associated with the project.
The controversy began when Binance offboarded a market maker linked to Movement Labs after discovering that the entity had sold approximately 66 million MOVE tokens on December 10, 2024, with minimal buy orders. This one-sided trading resulted in a profit of $38 million USDT for the market maker before Binance intervened and froze the proceeds. Binance cited the market maker's failure to comply with its rules requiring balanced bid-ask orders and sufficient order depth as the reason for the action.
In response to the incident, the Movement Network Foundation announced a $38 million buyback program for MOVE tokens, funded by the frozen proceeds. The buyback is intended to reintroduce liquidity into the ecosystem and restore investor confidence.
Coinbase followed suit by delisting the MOVE token, citing concerns over the project's governance and the market maker's activities. The delisting further impacted the token's price, which had already experienced significant volatility.
Movement Labs has stated that it is conducting a third-party review to ensure transparency and accountability. The company emphasized that operations continue as normal during the review process.
The suspension of Rushi Manche and the ongoing investigation highlight the challenges faced by blockchain projects in maintaining transparency and trust within the crypto community. The outcome of Movement Labs' internal review and its efforts to address these issues will be closely watched by investors and industry observers.
