JellyC Joins OKX & Standard Chartered in Groundbreaking Collateral Mirroring Pilot

Australian-based digital asset fund JellyC has officially partnered with Standard Chartered and leading global crypto exchange OKX in a major step toward transforming how institutional investors handle digital asset collateral. The pilot project introduces a "collateral mirroring" mechanism that allows institutional traders to use tokenized money market funds (TMMFs) and cryptocurrencies as off-exchange collateral—eliminating one of the most critical risks in crypto trading: the custody of funds on centralized exchanges.

This strategic three-party model—encompassing a regulated bank, a licensed crypto platform, and a fund manager—sets a new benchmark for how traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) can integrate in a compliant, efficient, and secure environment.

Reimagining Collateral for the Digital Age

Traditionally, collateral used in trading or derivatives must be held by the counterparty or the platform, introducing a substantial risk in the event of exchange insolvency or mismanagement. In response to these long-standing concerns, particularly amplified by the collapse of platforms like FTX, institutional players are now demanding more custody-neutral solutions.

The newly launched framework enables trading participants like JellyC to retain control of their assets while still using them as active collateral in trading activities. The structure is composed of three core pillars:

  • JellyC: A crypto-native investment fund that actively manages digital assets and is now integrating tokenized traditional instruments.

  • Standard Chartered: Acting as a regulated third-party custodian, holding and verifying the on-chain collateral while maintaining full compliance with international regulatory standards.

  • OKX: One of the largest and most trusted global crypto exchanges, which manages trading activities and mirrors the pledged collateral without requiring it to be transferred to the exchange.

This "mirrored collateral" approach allows tokens—such as those representing government-backed money market funds—to remain secure in custody accounts, with their value mirrored on OKX's trading infrastructure for immediate use.

JellyC’s Institutional Commitment: $75 Million Allocation

JellyC has committed USD 75 million (equivalent to AU$100 million) to the pilot, deploying capital into Franklin Templeton’s tokenized money market fund. The fund, which is natively issued on the public blockchain, offers full legal ownership clarity and real-time asset visibility. This enables JellyC to actively use these assets in its trading strategies without ever removing them from custody.

Michael Prendiville, co-founder of JellyC, emphasized the importance of this initiative:

“This program represents the future of institutional crypto engagement. By using tokenized, yield-generating, legally secure assets like Franklin’s money market fund, and combining that with the security infrastructure of Standard Chartered and the agility of OKX, we’re creating a new tier of safety and capital efficiency.”

He also noted that such institutional-grade structures are essential in attracting interest from superannuation funds, pension funds, and family offices—investors who have so far been hesitant to participate in crypto markets due to security and regulatory concerns.

Bridging the Old and New Worlds: The Role of Tokenization

The JellyC initiative is a reflection of a broader wave across financial markets—the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs), including Treasury bills, bonds, and money market instruments. Tokenized funds, which offer both yield and blockchain-native programmability, are rapidly being adopted by large institutions seeking the benefits of DeFi with the protections of TradFi.

In 2025 alone, the market capitalization of tokenized money market funds has grown by over 80%, reaching nearly USD 7.4 billion globally. Franklin Templeton, BlackRock, and Janus Henderson are leading this transformation, minting tokenized fund units that can be held in both traditional and on-chain wallets.

Beyond just holding value, these tokens can now serve as active collateral for trading, borrowing, and liquidity provisioning—making them dynamic financial tools in a Web3 economy.

Compliance, Custody & Control: The Institutional Triad

The partnership's strength lies not only in its technological innovation but also in its robust compliance and custody architecture:

  • Standard Chartered’s Dubai-based digital assets division is fully regulated under the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), making it one of the few globally recognized custodians licensed to handle institutional digital assets.

  • OKX’s institutional arm, also VARA-licensed, ensures that all trading activities comply with the highest standards of risk management, AML/KYC protocols, and transparency.

  • Franklin Templeton, a legacy financial institution with decades of experience in money market funds, now offers fully on-chain funds that preserve the regulatory and accounting integrity of their traditional versions.

The result is a compliant, interoperable financial model where institutions can safely enter crypto markets without compromising on regulatory standards or custodial control.

Implications for the Future of Institutional Crypto Finance

JellyC’s participation is just the beginning. As more funds seek compliant paths into digital asset markets, tokenized funds and mirrored collateral structures are likely to become industry standard. This approach allows:

  • Reduced counterparty risk, as assets are no longer custodied by the exchange.

  • Improved capital efficiency, with yield-bearing assets available for margin and collateral use.

  • Real-time visibility and auditability, as blockchain-native instruments provide 24/7 transparency.

  • Faster liquidity, thanks to programmable settlement and instant margin updates.

This pilot also positions JellyC and its partners at the forefront of digital asset infrastructure development, laying the foundation for tokenized derivatives, on-chain repo markets, and multi-asset trading in a secure, regulated environment.

Conclusion: From Pilot to Protocol

The partnership between JellyC, Standard Chartered, and OKX signals a seismic shift in how institutional finance can operate in crypto markets. With real assets, real regulations, and real-time custody now possible, the once-fragmented world of crypto trading is inching closer to full institutional legitimacy.

By championing secure, off-exchange collateral solutions powered by tokenized funds, this collaboration offers a blueprint for a future where capital efficiency, security, and regulatory clarity are no longer at odds—but fully aligned.
