Ethereum ETFs Experience Outflows After Record Inflow Streak; ETH Approaches 2021 High
In a notable market development, U.S.-based spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced a net outflow of $59.3 million on Friday, August 15, 2025. This marks the first outflow after an impressive eight-day inflow streak that saw approximately $3.7 billion in new investments into these funds .
The timing of this outflow is significant, occurring just after Ether (ETH) came within 2% of reclaiming its all-time high of $4,878, set in 2021. On Thursday, August 14, ETH peaked at $4,788.55 before retracing to $4,548.17 .
Despite the recent outflow, the overall trend for Ethereum ETFs remains positive. Since their inception in July 2024, these ETFs have accumulated a total of $12.68 billion in net inflows . Analysts suggest that sustained institutional interest and favorable market conditions could support ETH's potential to surpass its previous high. Prediction markets, such as Polymarket, indicate a 64% chance that ETH will reach $5,000 by the end of August, with an 87% probability of setting a new all-time high .
In summary, while the recent outflow from Ethereum ETFs may indicate short-term profit-taking, the broader market sentiment remains bullish. With strong institutional backing and optimistic price forecasts, Ethereum is poised to continue its upward trajectory, potentially breaking new records in the near future.
