Dogecoin Surges 5% Amid ETF Speculation and DeFi Expansion

Dogecoin (DOGE) posted a strong ~5% gain over the past 24 hours, rebounding sharply from recent lows in a classic V-shaped pattern. The move, which took DOGE from around $0.189 to nearly $0.20, was supported by a significant increase in trading volume. During peak trading hours, volumes more than doubled, reflecting renewed market interest and a rush of buy-side momentum.

This rally comes as speculative optimism builds around the possibility of a spot Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). Platforms like Polymarket now assign roughly a 51% chance that the SEC will approve such a product sometime in 2025. Multiple asset managers—including Bitwise, Grayscale, and 21Shares—have reportedly prepared filings or expressed interest, mirroring the institutional shift seen earlier with Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.

In parallel, Dogecoin’s functionality is also expanding. Its integration into Coinbase-backed Base, a leading layer-2 Ethereum network, has opened the door to broader use in decentralized finance (DeFi). This development is gradually reshaping DOGE’s image from a purely speculative “meme coin” to a token with real-world applications, particularly in smart contracts and on-chain liquidity mechanisms.

On-chain data reinforces the bullish case. Large-scale “whale” transactions involving DOGE rose by more than 40% this month, and the number of active wallet addresses is also climbing. These trends suggest strategic accumulation may be underway in anticipation of regulatory decisions and continued ecosystem growth.

Technically, DOGE is pushing against resistance around the $0.198 to $0.199 range, with strong support holding around $0.189. The steep V-shaped recovery pattern and elevated volume profile indicate conviction among buyers, setting the stage for a possible breakout if bullish catalysts persist.

While the ETF speculation is fueling much of the excitement, the deeper story is one of evolving utility and increasing on-chain engagement. Whether or not a fund approval materializes in the near term, Dogecoin’s position in the market appears to be strengthening as both retail and institutional participants take a closer look.
