Dogecoin Plunges Over 11% as Institutional Investors Exit Amid Heavy Selloff
Dogecoin (DOGE) experienced a sharp decline of more than 11% in the last 24 hours, trading at $0.231 as of press time, according to CoinMarketCap data. The sudden drop appears to be driven by a wave of selling pressure, with market analysts attributing much of it to the likely exit of institutional players and large holders.
Institutional Outflows and Whale Movements
On-chain analytics from IntoTheBlock and Lookonchain show a noticeable increase in large transaction volumes — typically a sign of whales or institutional wallets offloading assets. These entities may be locking in profits after Dogecoin's recent rally or reallocating capital toward more fundamentally backed assets amid rising market uncertainty.
According to WhaleStats, over $75 million worth of DOGE moved from whale wallets to exchanges in the past 48 hours, reinforcing concerns of a coordinated exit strategy.
Technical Levels: $0.23 Support, $0.24 Resistance
Despite the heavy sell-off, temporary support was observed at $0.23 around 21:00 UTC, signaling some accumulation interest among smaller investors or algorithmic buyers. However, repeated attempts to climb past the $0.24 resistance level failed, reflecting weak bullish momentum and a possible exhaustion of buying interest in the short term.
This resistance zone has historically served as a pivot point, and failure to reclaim it signals market hesitation and a potential continuation of bearish pressure.
Market Sentiment and Outlook
The broader crypto market remains mixed, with Bitcoin hovering around $62,800 and Ethereum trading near $3,420. Memecoins like Dogecoin are particularly vulnerable during such uncertain periods, often experiencing amplified reactions to shifts in liquidity and sentiment.
Trading volume for Dogecoin spiked over 28% in the past day, reaching $1.15 billion, but much of that activity leaned heavily toward sell orders, according to Binance and OKX order book data.
Unless strong fundamental catalysts — such as network upgrades, adoption news, or high-profile endorsements — materialize in the near term, DOGE could be at risk of testing lower support levels around $0.21 or even $0.19, especially if institutional outflows persist.
