ARK Invest Makes a Major $373M Bet on Circle Shares as Stock Soars 50% on NYSE Debut
On June 5, 2025, Circle Internet Group, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, made a remarkable debut on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol "CRCL." The company priced its initial public offering (IPO) at $31 per share, raising approximately $1.1 billion by selling 34 million shares. The stock opened at $69, more than doubling its IPO price, and closed at $83.23, marking a 168% increase on its first day of trading. At this closing price, Circle's valuation surged to over $18 billion, making it the second-largest public crypto listing after Coinbase's 2021 debut.
ARK Investment Management, led by Cathie Wood, expressed interest in purchasing up to $150 million in Circle shares during the IPO. This move underscores ARK's confidence in Circle's potential and its strategic focus on fintech and digital assets.
Circle's IPO is seen as a significant milestone for the cryptocurrency industry, reflecting growing investor confidence and the increasing legitimacy of digital assets in traditional financial markets. The company's strong debut may pave the way for other crypto firms to pursue public listings, especially as regulatory clarity improves under the current administration.
For investors, Circle's successful IPO highlights the expanding opportunities in the digital asset space, particularly in stablecoins, which are gaining traction as a reliable medium of exchange and store of value. As the market continues to evolve, Circle's performance could serve as a bellwether for the broader adoption of blockchain-based financial services.
